Curry Moves to Sirius

Sirius Radio is eager for content, after hooking up Stern they have now added Adam Curry to their celebrity radio host portfolio

He will produce and be host of a four-hour program every weekday starting May 13 on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Mr. Curry will help choose material for “Adam Curry’s PodShow” from some of the thousands of amateur shows produced in basements, living rooms and dormitories. Sirius subscribers, who pay $12.95 a month for the service, can listen to the show on channel 148, “Talk Central.”

Sorry, I don’t get this … this is awfully wrong, for me the main point of podcasts is that

[…] users can listen to podcasts whenever they want, pause them or rewind them to listen again. This allows users to carry their shows with them and no longer be bound to a radio station’s schedule.

So where’s the point of moving back to radio, giving up “transmitting” of mp3 files … remember, we don’t need no stinkin’ transmitters … being tied to schedules … moreover this move is alienating international listeners, who can’t subscribe to Sirius … but who might listen via Internet or via an RSS-enclosed MP3 File.

I don’t want to cry “Commercialization” as I hope that Adam Curry and his fellow mates earn truckloads of cash … well deserved cash from Sirius attracting many new subscribers.
Still I think this idea is so traditional and old-school … on the other side this arrangement will also get some promotion for the idea of podcasting in general … making it clear that the concept of radio stinks …
