Jargon as Organizational Pathology …
Oh well, this is so right on point … Stephen Baker in BusinessWeek on the miseries of jargon (add this to the big list where nih-syndrome, group think, and a bunch of other organizational pathologies reside).
Notice also that innovation is hindered by jargon:
Why so? Breakthroughs occur at the borders between discliplines and cultures. Think of the advances in biotech and nanotechnology, and even digital media. It’s people with different specialities–biologists, physicists, guitar virtuosos, computer scientists–blending their knowledge. They need common languages.
Let me add another antidote: generalists, people with a diverse work experience and education who can facilitate and transmit between different lingos
